75 min animated feature film (2005)

Synopsis
The noble Grandfather, sitting in his blue grotto, explains:

"The story of Kirikou and the Sorceress was too short. My grandson did many good deeds that have not yet been told. They should not be forgotten and now I'm going to tell them."

So he tells us how creative Kirikou became a gardener, an investigator, a potter, a merchant, a traveller and a doctor. Kirikou is the smallest hero and he is the most intrepid!

Notes

"Kirikou and the Sorceress" was a story with an end, that's all. When success came, I was asked if I would make a sequel. I just shrugged my shoulders: That's just not what I do. The story had drawn to a close, and no sequel was possible (the attractive naked baby ends up as an adult, dressed up and married!). Didier Brunner, the producer, moved skilfully, he knew he was onto a good thing and he did not give up. He suggested little stories for the television, directed, under my supervision, by a knowledgeable person, leaving me some free time.

"Three little Kirikou stories?! Why don't you make four and we can release a DVD!", everyone commented. "Four little stories?! Make a feature film: with a cinema release, you will get a bigger budget than with television and you can make a quality film!"

The truth is something unexpected happened: everyone loved Kirikou! Young and old, in my country and abroad, they were all asking for a sequel.

"You have done something good for us, and you must continue. You have no right to stop".

After several years of sustained refusal, I accepted. I told Benedicte Galup, who would have preferred to be the sole master, that we were shooting a feature film and I had to be in control. So we co-directed this once unthinkable Kirikou II. It actually attracted a bigger audience than "Kirikou and the Sorceress".
